Or you’re framed on national TV to be the criminal the psycho wants you to be – to entice an audience’s attention to reap huge profits until the story wears out – and then you’re dead.
TOP STORY is a high-concept studio film with great acting roles, a plot that twists and turns and throws the characters right jabs so fast their heads do a 360 only to be met with a left jab spinning their head in the opposite direction, and while trying to regain their balance their entire lives are turned upside down – everything has changed – seemingly out of nowhere.

SYNOPSIS
A psychopathic genius media-mogul, Ben Shepard, uses his financial power and high-level government and underground connections to manipulate the public and frame the innocent, while creating horrific, unthinkable, tragedies for enormous profit. The latest is what appears to be a terrorist attack on the Children’s Museum on the San Francisco Pier, killing over 100 children!
One of the victim’s mother, a well-known criminal psychologist, Dawn Mathews, and her detective husband Lou, are devastated at the murder of their priceless beautiful child and are desperate for justice. They are drawn into the crime by the wife of a popular News Media’s Pulitzer Prize-Winning Journalist, Doug Barnes, who suspects Ben of creating tragedies for first coverage – and confronts him.
Doug disappears.
Learning that Dawn and Lou are onto him, Ben uses Deep Fake & AI technologies to deceive as he continually shifts the story as it evolves, framing whoever he wants, to boost ratings and divert attention away from him and his company. As the Top Story loses momentum and as ratings drop losing ad revenue, Shepard seeks a way to to piggy-back its tragic history, inflaming it, to boost ad sales and ratings back up.
Dawn and Lou have access to high-tech police databases to investigate Shepard, and realize he is the Monster who murdered their child and many others. But nothing gets by Shepard, and once he learns they are onto him, he frames Dawn as the insane mass murderer responsible for the Children’s Museum Bombing that killed her child and over 100 others, splashing her angry confessions on video that his team creates on National TV! He forces her, Lou and Mary on the run across Mid-America, and that becomes part of the nation-wide compulsive news-watching frenzy that brings in more billions.
Mary and Lou are murdered in a dive motel in Wyoming.
Now Dawn is alone to fend for herself in the middle of nowhere, as every cop in the country is on a shoot-to-kill manhunt for her.
Shepard spins the Top Story again, now Dawn is framed for Lou and Mary’s murder too, increasing the illusion of her madness to the world audiences now tuning in 24/7. Alone, wrought with pain from her losses, in the middle of nowhere, and being hunted by police she hides in the deep woods of Mid-America while the Deep Faked News Programming continues spinning its web of deception across the globe:
“DAWN MATTHEWS – THE MAD DOC , MASS MURDERER OF CHILDREN, OF HER OWN CHILD AND HUSBAND, IS ON THE LOOSE! WHAT WILL SHE DO NEXT – WILL SHE COME FOR YOU?!”
Dawn treks across America on foot through forests, slums, and other invisible locations, determined to right this unbelievable crime and frame-up, one enraged foot at a time; exhausted, frightened, in pain, and filthy; but focused like a lion about to attack its prey, she seeks to find and reveal to the world the truth. She’s smart, and has an arsenal of technology of her own; her dead husband’s, who was a technology specialist in the police force.
Dawn takes Shepard at gunpoint in his News Media Television Studio on the top floor of a skyscraper in Manhattan, and in front of the entire world hungry for the next twist of this Top Story, “Madwoman Dr. Dawn Matthews tells America the “absolute truth”.
Holding up a photo of her dead, murdered child and husband for them all to see, she intelligently explains how her family was brutally killed by this maniac, as well as 100’s of others, and why Ben Sheppard and his associates killed them, how he’s using Deepfake and AI Technologies and his media station to fool them. Everything she’s saying makes perfect sense. But Ben’s well-honed news machine spins it all to make her look like she is nothing but a criminally insane mass murderer, and Ben Shepard yet another victim, who only tried to save the world from her via his News Programming.
“Tragedy, as Entertainment” is the new normal and TOP STORY takes us inside a world that holds the power to create confusing illusions of reality for profit, that under the wrong hands can create deep mis-perceptions of the truth, making the innocent look guilty, and the guilty look innocent. It takes human tragedy and spins it as entertainment, while innocent lives are framed and murdered for profit, and psychopathic criminals who cast themselves as saviors, run the show!
